The team are now hiring for a GIS and Data Analyst to support our growing portfolio of projects across the offshore wind, subsea cables and oil and gas sectors in the UK and Europe. This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills in GIS, data management, and marine-sector analysis while working alongside experienced specialists. You will be supported in developing your technical skills, understanding of GIS workflows and familiarity with fisheries and marine environmental data. You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge while contributing to real-world projects from day one. This role is based at Brown & May Marine Ltd’s head office in Eye, Suffolk. The company operates a flexible work at home/office-based hybrid system, with remote working considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the day-to-day management of the GIS data, databases and data filing systems;
  • Supporting data acquisition by preparing and issuing data requests to relevant UK and European fisheries agencies and other relevant organisations, as required;
  • Working with colleagues to produce high quality GIS and data outputs, often to tight deadlines, for use in fisheries liaison, survey work, impact assessments and technical reporting;
  • Contributing to the improvement of internal data management systems and procedures;
  • Assisting in the development of mapping applications and tools, including opportunities to use Python and R driven data analysis;
  • Providing basic GIS and data support to staff across the company.

Person Specification:

  • Competent user of ArcGIS software;
  • Good understanding of mapping principles, coordinate systems and projections;
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office applications including Excel (Access beneficial);
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Well organised, efficient and able to work to tight deadlines;
  • Strong IT literacy and problem-solving abilities;
  • BSc in a relevant discipline (e.g., Geography, Environmental Science, Marine Science, GIS) - Desirable;
  • Experience of Python (e.g. Arcpy, Pandas, Matplotlib) - Desirable;
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, JavaScript or CSS - Desirable;
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS online, Webapp Builder or similar platforms - Desirable;
  • Interest in fisheries, environmental science or experience working with marine-related datasets - Desirable.
