Our client, a specialist contractor within the utilities and infrastructure sector, is seeking an experienced Section Engineer for projects across East London. The business delivers a range of civil engineering and utility infrastructure works, including new sewer installations, manhole construction, drainage diversions, and associated groundwork packages on major UK infrastructure schemes.

Responsibilities of Section Engineer:

  • Preparing and reviewing project documentation, including:
    • RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
    • Permits to Work
    • ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans)
    • Temporary Works documentation
  • Assisting with programme development and buildability assessments
  • Coordinating with clients, water authorities, and principal contractors
  • Setting out for drainage and sewer infrastructure works
  • Managing Site Engineers and site operatives
  • Supervising groundwork, temporary works, and permanent works activities
  • Overseeing construction of new manholes and sewer networks
  • Ensuring works are delivered in line with quality standards, specifications, and health & safety requirements
  • Liaising with Temporary Works Coordinators and design teams
  • Producing as-built drawings
  • Preparing QA documentation and project handover packs
  • Supporting project completion procedures and client sign-off

Skills & Experience Required for Section Engineer:

  • Essential
    • Experience working as a Section Engineer or Senior Site Engineer within drainage, sewage, utilities, or civil infrastructure projects
    • Strong knowledge of groundwork, temporary works, and permanent works
    • Experience delivering new manhole and sewer construction works
    • Competent in setting out
    • Experience leading site teams and supervising engineers
    • Strong understanding of QA and construction documentation, including RAMS, ITPs, permits, and as-built records
    • Experience working with water authorities and principal contractors
    • Valid CSCS card
  • Desirable
    • Experience on major UK infrastructure projects
    • Confined Space certification
    • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification or similar
    • Appointed Person (AP) qualification beneficial
