Tradewind Recruitment are recruiting for a caretaker in the Hull/East Riding area for one of our partner schools. This is a 25 hour per week role and salary Grade 5, Scp 8-13, £18,124 to £19,638 per annum (actual salary). This role is ideally to start ASAP and for the right person could turn permanent. This is to cover a vacant position. Payment for this position will be prorata to the scale of the role mentioned above. The working pattern of hours can be negotiated at interview stage; however, the role must include either an early start of 6am, a later finish time of 6pm or both under a split shift arrangement.

Some of your duties may include:

  • Maintenance and Repairs
    • Carrying out minor repairs (e.g., fixing doors, windows, furniture).
    • Performing routine maintenance of school buildings, fixtures, and fittings.
    • Keeping heating, lighting, and plumbing systems functional.
  • Cleaning and Waste Management
    • Ensuring external areas (playgrounds, car parks, paths) are clean and safe.
    • Managing waste disposal and recycling.
  • Security
    • Opening and locking the school premises (gates, doors, windows).
    • Setting and disabling alarms as necessary.
    • Responding to security issues or alarm activations (including out-of-hours).
  • Health and Safety
    • Conducting regular health and safety checks (e.g., fire alarms, emergency exits).
    • Ensuring pathways are safe during bad weather (e.g., gritting in winter).

This school is located around Hull and is most easily accessible via car or public transport. There is a large onsite car park for those candidates who do drive. This role would be perfect for someone who would like to begin, retain or further develop a career in facilities management. A qualification in Health and Safety would be an advantage, but training can be provided if not currently held.

  • Have experience as a caretaker (desirable)
  • Have experience working within schools in the UK (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks
  • CV must cover the full CV History
