This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative and ambitious team based in a thriving Hertfordshire office, where you will play a key role in the delivery of complex and rewarding rail projects from concept through to construction.

The Role

As a Civil/Structural Engineer within the rail team, you will be involved in a variety of technically challenging projects spanning bridges, retaining structures, tunnels, platforms, and other rail infrastructure assets. You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, contributing to all stages of the project lifecycle.

  • Design and analysis of civil and structural elements for rail infrastructure projects
  • Preparation of calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Liaison with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Supporting the delivery of projects to programme, budget, and quality standards
  • Assisting with site visits and construction‑stage engineering support
  • Contributing to the development of junior team members

The Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and technically capable engineer with:

  • A degree (BEng/MEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 3-5 years of relevant post‑graduate experience in a UK consultancy environment
  • Demonstrable experience working on rail infrastructure or similar transport projects (Network Rail or equivalent frameworks advantageous)
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD, LUSAS, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards including Network Rail Group Standards and Eurocodes
  • Working towards or recently achieved Incorporated or Chartered status (ICE/IStructE)
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
  • Experience with RAIB submissions, possessions planning, or CDM responsibilities would be a bonus, though not essential.

What's On Offer

Our client offers a competitive salary and benefits package, a genuine commitment to career development and chartership support, and the opportunity to work on high‑profile, nationally significant projects. The culture is supportive and non‑hierarchical, with real visibility and responsibility from an early stage.
