Location: Hybrid, expectation to attend site as and when required

Salary: £53,000 - £65,000 per annum, DOE + Excellent Benefits!

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Contract: Full time, Permanent

We are seeking a Toxicology Consultant to act as a subject matter expert within Broughton. In this role, you will provide specialist toxicological advice, guide regulatory strategies, and support the development of submissions and scientific assessments across our core areas of nicotine, cannabinoids and pharmaceuticals. The position requires strong applied toxicology expertise, sound scientific judgement, and the ability to contribute to client discussions with clarity and authority.

As our Toxicology Consultant, you will:

  • Provide expert toxicology advice and guidance to clients and internal teams.
  • Support the preparation and review of regulatory dossiers for client projects.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced toxicologists within the team.
  • Prepare toxicology profiles and conduct hazard assessments, including in silico evaluations and expert reviews.
  • Support the development of systematic literature reviews.
  • Critically assess primary toxicology studies, summarising findings, strengths and limitations.
  • Conduct quantitative human health risk assessments for both individual chemicals and mixtures.
  • Author expert opinion reports and provide senior review of toxicology deliverables.
  • Attend relevant toxicology conferences and present on key topics where appropriate.
  • Work with Business Development to support new enquiries, contribute to statements of work, and attend client meetings.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on technical content to support visibility of the toxicology team.
  • Maintain awareness of global regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
  • Continue to develop personal expertise to support emerging scientific areas.

In order to be successful in this role you must have:

  • Degree in Toxicology or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in applied toxicology and risk assessment.
  • Proven experience conducting risk assessments.
  • Strong technical writing and scientific communication skills.
  • Demonstrable project management capability.
  • Evidence of personal motivation, ongoing learning and lateral thinking.

It would be great if you had:

  • PhD in Toxicology.
  • Background in nicotine-related toxicology.
  • Experience authoring or co-authoring academic publications.
  • Experience using computational modelling tools (e.g., OECD Toolbox, ToxTree, Lhasa).
  • Previous experience in a CRO or client-facing environment.
