Expleo is proud to be partnering with a prestigious automotive OEM to recruit a Mechanical Engineer - Cockpit Trim & A-Surface to support cutting‑edge off‑cycle engineering activities. Unlike programme‑tied roles, this position sits within an innovation‑focused off‑cycle team, dedicated to advancing the body of knowledge across cockpit trim, finishers and veneer technologies. You will play a pivotal role in shaping future design strategies, innovation pipelines, and engineering standards for high‑end interior systems. This is a unique opportunity to influence short, medium and long‑term technical direction, working at the forefront of cockpit design and engineering excellence.
Responsibilities
- Drive development of the Trim & A‑Surface engineering knowledge base, including:
- Bills of Design
- DFMEA documentation
- Commodity strategies
- Innovation roadmaps
- Define and update engineering requirements and validation test specifications
- Provide technical expertise to programme teams, including:
- Quality issue resolution & Part release support
- Conduct benchmarking activities to identify best‑in‑class solutions
- Engage with suppliers to track emerging materials and manufacturing technologies
- Define and manage validation plans for new concepts and design changes
- Support sustainability and environmental initiatives within cockpit components
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Design, Attributes, and Perceived Quality
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of cockpit system design, particularly trim and A‑surface components
- Experience in automotive interior delivery (concept to production / J1)
- Plastic component design, Veneer / finisher technologies, Wrapping processes, Material selection and geometric control
- FMEA / DFMEA
- Six Sigma or structured problem‑solving tools
- Product development lifecycle
- Change control & product definition processes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- CAD experience (CATIA V5 / V6) desired
- Familiarity with Agile working environments
- Experience influencing cross‑functional teams and suppliers
