An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Rental Income Support Officer to join a busy local authority team. This role is focused on maximising rental income, reducing arrears and supporting residents to sustain their tenancies. You will manage a patch of rent accounts and take a proactive approach to income recovery through early intervention, resident engagement and effective case management. Working in a commercially focused environment, you will balance strong income collection with excellent customer care.
Responsibilities
- Manage a patch of rent accounts and act as the first point of contact for rent-related queries.
- Take early action on arrears through phone calls, home visits and case follow-up.
- Negotiate and monitor affordable repayment agreements.
- Draft clear, tailored correspondence to residents.
- Prepare cases for court officers and support possession and stay hearings.
- Attend evictions where required.
- Work with tenancy teams, welfare benefit officers, debt advice agencies and social care.
- Maximise Housing Benefit take-up and support residents affected by Universal Credit, the Benefit Cap and spare room subsidy.
- Identify vulnerable residents and make appropriate referrals to specialist support services.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and case notes.
- Support the wider team through cover, training and shared best practice.
About you
- Experience of income management in social housing or local government.
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation, welfare benefits and the court pre-action protocol.
- Confidence negotiating sustainable repayment plans.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload independently.
- NEC, Voidscope or RentSense experience is highly desirable.
