We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Commercial Manager to support the delivery of major power and energy infrastructure projects across North Wales and wider UK networks. This is a senior commercial role offering the opportunity to take ownership of high-value, complex infrastructure schemes within a critical and fast-growing energy sector. You will play a key role in driving commercial performance, contractual compliance, and financial certainty across multiple project packages.

The Opportunity

As Commercial Manager, you will lead the commercial function across major energy transmission, substation, and associated infrastructure projects, operating under NEC contracts. You will be responsible for ensuring robust cost control, effective change management, and strong commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with project leadership, engineering teams, and supply chain partners, you will help ensure successful delivery of complex energy infrastructure works. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days per week on site in North Wales, with the remainder working flexibly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of major power and energy infrastructure projects
  • Provide strategic oversight of NEC contract administration (particularly NEC Option C)
  • Manage and support the resolution of Compensation Events and change control processes
  • Oversee cost management, forecasting, and financial reporting across multiple workstreams
  • Ensure robust control of Defined Cost and target cost mechanisms
  • Lead subcontract procurement, negotiation, and ongoing commercial management
  • Drive effective risk and opportunity management strategies
  • Provide clear, accurate commercial reporting to senior stakeholders and client teams
  • Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive contract management
  • Ensure full compliance with contractual obligations and internal governance procedures
  • Mentor and support junior members of the commercial team where required

About You

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor in the power, energy, or utilities sector
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of NEC contracts (essential)
  • Experience working with NEC Option C (target cost) frameworks highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of Defined Cost and compensation event processes
  • Excellent commercial, analytical, and financial management skills
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability
  • Ability to operate confidently in complex, high-value infrastructure environments
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
