Overview
Our client, a well-established organisation within the waste management sector, is looking for a Waste Management Assistant to join their operational team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with people, has strong communication skills and is looking for a varied role combining office-based administration with field-based operational support. This is a hands-on and fast-paced position offering a mix of site visits, customer engagement, monitoring activity and administrative support. It would suit someone who is motivated, organised and confident working both independently and as part of a wider team.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage directly with customers, providing guidance and support around correct recycling and waste disposal practices
- Monitor collection routes and identify contamination or non-compliance within recycling bins
- Carry out inspections of public and commercial waste collection points
- Support follow-up activity, including reporting findings and issuing written communications where required
- Respond to customer enquiries via telephone and email
- Maintain accurate records and update Excel-based tracking systems
- Assist with engagement activity to encourage correct waste disposal practices
- Work across multiple sites throughout the Highlands to support operational service delivery
Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role such as customer service, field support, compliance, or operational engagement
- Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing with people face-to-face
- Strong administration skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Ability to organise workloads effectively and meet deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach
- Comfortable working both outdoors and in an office environment
- Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the Highland region
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
Desirable
- Previous experience within waste management, recycling, environmental services or a similar operational setting
- Experience dealing with challenging situations or conflict resolution
- An interest in sustainability or waste reduction practices
