A well-established organisation in West Wales is looking for an experienced Senior Network & Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of its core IT infrastructure. This is a hands-on senior role focused on designing, maintaining and improving enterprise network environments, ensuring high levels of performance, resilience and security across business-critical systems. You’ll join a forward-thinking IT function, working with modern technologies in a technically strong environment where you’ll play a key role in infrastructure strategy, project delivery and operational excellence.

The role

You’ll be responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing management of complex network and infrastructure solutions across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and maintaining enterprise-level network architecture including LAN, WAN, WLAN and VPN
  • Ensuring high availability, performance and scalability across network services
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex network and infrastructure issues
  • Managing and configuring network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers
  • Leading infrastructure upgrades, migrations and improvement projects
  • Implementing secure remote access solutions using VPN, IPsec, SSL/TLS and SSH
  • Managing network security controls including firewall policies, IDS/IPS, encryption and PKI
  • Monitoring network performance, capacity and security, identifying opportunities for optimisation
  • Supporting disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Managing patching, system updates and configuration backups
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members
  • Supporting incident response and participating in on-call support where required

What we’re looking for

You’ll be a highly capable infrastructure professional with strong enterprise networking expertise and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key experience includes:

  • Proven experience managing large-scale enterprise network environments
  • Strong understanding of routing and core network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP
  • Deep knowledge of network security principles and technologies
  • Experience with firewalls, VPNs and encryption standards
  • Hands-on experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere
  • Strong Windows Server administration experience
  • Exposure to containerisation technologies would be beneficial
  • Experience working within structured IT service environments

Desirable certifications

  • CCNP / CCIE
  • JNCIP
  • ITIL certification or framework exposure
