Overview

My client is a rapidly expanding renewable energy contractor specialising in large-scale commercial heat pumps and ground-mounted solar projects. With a strong reputation for quality delivery and a team of around 20, they are continuing to grow and are now looking for a Design Assistant to support their technical and design function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who is keen to learn and develop within a supportive environment. No previous design experience is required, as full on-the-job training will be provided. The role will initially focus on report writing and document preparation, so strong Microsoft Office skills are essential. Any exposure to BIM, CAD or AutoCAD would be highly advantageous, but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design team with document preparation and technical administration
  • Produce reports and documentation using Microsoft Office
  • Assist with basic design coordination tasks across projects
  • Work closely with engineers and project teams
  • Develop technical understanding of heat pump and renewable systems through training

Qualifications

  • Highly organised and detail-focused
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Any exposure to BIM, CAD or AutoCAD beneficial but not essential
  • Motivated to learn and build a career in design
  • Local to Cambridge or Royston
