As Strategic Finance Manager, you’ll operate at the highest level of local government finance, working directly with Strategic Directors and the Section 151 Officer to lead the organisation's medium to long-term financial planning.
This is a role where your expertise will influence millions of pounds of investment, drive major transformation programmes, and ensure the authority can continue delivering essential services to some of the most diverse communities in the region. You’ll be part of the Finance Management Team, providing strategic oversight across departmental budgets ranging from £160m to £650m, leading complex savings programmes, and pioneering innovative approaches to financial management that go beyond current national best practice.

You’ll be a fully‑qualified accountant (ACA or CIMA or ACCA or CIPFA) with demonstrable success at senior management level in a complex organisation. But qualifications only tell part of the story. We’re looking for someone with exceptional analytical capability who can work through complex problems, develop sophisticated financial models, and lead commercial negotiations.
You’ll understand the political landscape of local government, have the gravitas to provide high‑level advice in challenging circumstances, and possess the leadership skills to inspire and develop high‑performing teams.
