The Risk and Assurance Manager is responsible for supporting the effective operation of the organisation’s risk management and assurance frameworks. The role provides independent oversight and challenge to ensure key risks are identified, assessed, managed, and reported in line with regulatory expectations, internal policies, and the organisation’s risk appetite.
Working closely with first-line business areas, the role helps embed a strong risk culture and delivers assurance that controls are designed and operating effectively across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the enterprise risk management framework.
- Facilitate risk identification, assessment, and documentation, including operational, conduct, financial, and emerging risks.
- Review and challenge risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs) to ensure risks are accurately captured and mitigated.
- Monitor adherence to the organisation’s risk appetite and escalate breaches or concerns appropriately.
- Produce high-quality risk reporting for senior management, committees, and the Board.
- Design and deliver risk-based assurance reviews across business functions and key processes.
- Evaluate the design and effectiveness of controls and identify control gaps or weaknesses.
- Track and monitor management actions arising from assurance reviews, incidents, audits, and regulatory findings.
- Provide independent assurance over regulatory compliance, internal policies, and key operational processes.
- Coordinate with Internal Audit and external assurance providers to avoid duplication and ensure alignment.
- Maintain awareness of relevant financial services regulation and industry best practice.
- Support regulatory submissions, thematic reviews, and responses to regulatory requests as required.
- Contribute to risk and assurance papers for governance forums, including Risk Committees.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of policies, standards, and procedures relating to risk and assurance.
