Office Manager – Six Degrees Social Enterprise
Salary: £35,000 Location: Eccles, Salford (fully site-based) Hours: Full time
Be the steady, organised heart of a Salford mental health service that helps more than 10,000 people every year.
About Six Degrees
Six Degrees is a Salford-based social enterprise and Community Interest Company, set up in 2011 and working as a commissioned partner of the NHS. Its mission is simple and genuinely felt: to help people and communities across Salford and Greater Manchester reach their best possible mental health and wellbeing.
The team runs Salford's Step 2 NHS Talking Therapies service, supporting people with anxiety, depression and low mood. It also offers bereavement counselling across Greater Manchester, helping people come to terms with grief and loss, alongside projects designed for communities who often find it hardest to get support.
It's an organisation that lives its values. Six Degrees is an accredited Living Wage employer, holds Investors in People Gold, and as a social enterprise puts what it earns back into the community it serves. Patients regularly describe their practitioners as calm, kind and understanding, and that care runs right through the whole team.
The role
This is an opportunity for an organised, people-focused Office Manager who wants their organisational and office management skills to make a real difference. You'll keep the office running smoothly, lead a small and committed admin team, and make sure everything from health and safety to information governance is safe, compliant and done properly.
Because Six Degrees supports people through anxiety, depression and bereavement, the office is often the first point of contact for someone having a difficult day. You'll set the tone: calm, kind, consistent and well organised, so the service users get a good experience and colleagues feel supported. You’ll be able to visibly see the impact of your work which is both rewarding and challenging so you’ll need to be kind and resilient.
What you'll be doing
- Running the office: keeping the workplace tidy, organised and compliant, welcoming visitors and contractors, and looking after key registers such as the asset register.
- Looking after patients' first contact: making sure every call is handled well, especially from people in distress, and keeping booking, cancelling and rescheduling processes consistent and safe.
- Improving the service: keeping confidential records to standard, running audits and spot checks, building performance dashboards from patient feedback, and writing and presenting reports for internal groups and the board.
- Leading the admin team: managing a team of three administrators and a domestic colleague, including rotas, annual leave, appraisals, probation, absence and day-to-day support.
- Health and safety: owning first aid, defibrillator checks, fire safety, PAT testing, DSE assessments and risk registers, and attending H&S meetings.
- Information governance: acting as Information Asset Owner, keeping IG registers up to date and making sure policies are followed.
- HR administration: running mandatory training reports, managing the DBS portal, the staffing establishment, and onboarding and leaver processes.
- IT and finance liaison: acting as the on-site contact for IT, and working alongside the remote Finance Manager to support finance processes on site.
About you
You'll be someone who loves bringing order to a busy environment and genuinely cares about the people around you. We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Proven experience in office or business management, with excellent organisational skills and a track record of hitting deadlines
- Hands-on experience of compliance, particularly health and safety and information governance
- Experience of leading a team, including rotas, leave and performance conversations
- Confidence setting up and following clear, fair processes, and the willingness to challenge things that aren't working
- Warm, professional communication skills and the resilience to handle sensitive calls with empathy and good boundaries
- A proactive, roll-your-sleeves-up approach
It would be a bonus if you've worked in a healthcare, charity, social enterprise or not-for-profit setting, are familiar with NHS ways of working, or have some payroll and pensions experience.
Please note: this is a fully site-based role
This role is based in the office in Eccles, Salford, five days a week. Being on site is at the heart of the job: you'll be the visible, reliable presence your team, colleagues and patients can count on, often in moments that really matter. If you're looking for hybrid working, this one won't be the right fit for you, but if you love being where the action is, and seeing how you are making a tangible difference, you'll feel right at home.
