Main duties of the job
Provide General Medical Service in accordance with the GMS contract.
Conducting face-to-face surgery consultations, telephone consultations, triage calls, home visits, and responding to clinical queries.
Assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
Reviewing, authorising, and signing repeat prescriptions, while dealing with associated queries, correspondence, and administrative tasks.
Developing patient‑centred care plans in partnership with patients and carers where appropriate.
Supporting the management of chronic disease conditions in line with Practice protocols and national guidance. Referring patients for further investigation, specialist opinion, or intervention when clinically indicated.
Maintaining accurate, clear, and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with Practice and GMC standards.
Completing clinically related administrative duties required to support effective service delivery.
Participating in the teaching, supervision, and support of medical students and GP trainees where required.

Job responsibilities
The post-holder will provide high-quality, patient-centred General Medical Services in accordance with the GMS contract. The role includes the management of acute and chronic conditions, preventative care, and health promotion, while working as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team to deliver safe and effective services to the practice population.
Main Duties of the Post
- Provide General Medical Services in line with the GMS contract
- Undertake face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations
- Diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions
- Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with local and national guidelines
- Process and action laboratory results, correspondence, and referrals
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records
- Participate in practice meetings, audits, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support service delivery
- Contribute to the teaching, training, and supervision of GP registrars, students, and other learners where appropriate
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain full registration with the General Medical Council and inclusion on the GP Performers List
- Work in accordance with the principles of Good Medical Practice
- Participate in annual appraisal and revalidation
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety procedures
Working Relationships
The post-holder will work closely with GP Partners, salaried GPs, nursing staff, allied health professionals, and administrative teams to support the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Experience
Essential
- Good understanding and experience of chronic disease management, and primary prevention and screening services.
- Ability to take responsibility for your own career development, learning and performance and are responsible for ensuring that all your mandatory training is in date.
- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
- Commitment to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a confidential manner.
Qualifications
Essential
- Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
- Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate)
- Be on the NHSE medical performers list
