Receptionist and Administration Assistant (Part Time) 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract Potential to Become Permanent
Are you an experienced GP Receptionist looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking a friendly, organised and proactive Receptionist/Administration Clerk to join our busy and supportive practice team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the opportunity for the role to become permanent for the right candidate. You will be required to work a mixture of AM/PM shifts (07:30-13:00 or 13:00-18:30). Total of 27.5hrs per week. Please do not apply if you are unable to commit to these shifts.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, delivering outstanding customer service and supporting patients with professionalism, empathy and efficiency.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs part of our reception and administration team, you will:
- Welcome patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Book appointments for GPs, nurses and other clinicians by telephone and in person.
- Process repeat prescription requests and issue prescriptions in line with practice procedures.
- Manage and allocate eConsult requests appropriately.
- Receive, record and transfer messages accurately to the relevant members of the clinical team.
- Retrieve, file and maintain patient records.
- Provide patients with non-clinical information and assist with general enquiries.
- Maintain accurate filing and administrative systems.
- Collect private fees where applicable.
- Support QOF administration and Child Immunisation recalls when required.
- Ensure the reception area, notice boards and patient information displays remain tidy and up to date.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a smooth handover between shifts.
- Undertake other reasonable administrative duties as requested by the Practice or Reception Manager.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Essential Previous experience working in a GP Practice.
- Experience using EMIS Web, but not essential.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
- A professional, friendly and patient-focused approach.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A strong understanding of patient confidentiality and GDPR principles.
- Flexibility to work additional hours when required.
- Evidence of ongoing personal development and learning.
- Experience supporting QOF administration and recall programmes.
