The vacancy is open to both experienced teachers and ECTs. However, prior knowledge, understanding, and practical experience of working with learners who have complex communication needs is essential.
This teaching post is an exciting opportunity to join our Post-16 team on the main site, supporting young people with SEND as they prepare for adulthood. The Post-16 curriculum is highly personalised and centred around each learner’s EHCP outcomes, with a strong focus on developing communication, independence, emotional regulation, employability skills, and self-advocacy.
Learning opportunities include vocational learning, personal development, independent living skills, health and wellbeing, community participation, and preparation for future pathways. Learners engage in practical experiences such as enterprise activities, workplace responsibilities, household tasks, self-care routines, and physical wellbeing programmes.
The curriculum is underpinned by a Total Communication approach, recognising and valuing all forms of communication, including spoken language, AAC, signs, symbols, gestures, and objects of reference. Staff support learners through personalised timetables, structured routines, visual supports, and regulation strategies to promote confidence, resilience, engagement, and independence.
Learners within the Post-16 provision have a wide range of complex learning needs, including significant Speech, Language and Communication Needs, and require a nurturing, aspirational approach that promotes successful transitions into adulthood, employment, further education, and community life.
The successful candidate will excel in meeting the diverse needs of our pupils. You will be supported within your class by a team of Learning Support Assistants and by a Middle and Senior Leadership Team who have a secure understanding of the rewards and challenges of teaching in our school.
Qualifications:
- Experience and skills of teaching pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs including ASC
- Knowledge and practical experience of providing engaging learning experiences to encourage early communication skills
- The ability to offer a range of inspirational teaching, learning, assessment and behaviour management strategies
- High expectations, commitment and enthusiasm for both the personal and educational development of all pupils
- Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
- An ability to work collaboratively with parents, carers, multi-professionals and outside agencies
