The Opportunity
We’re building a greenfield, AI-native fintech platform from the ground up. This isn’t a migration project or a lift-and-shift of legacy technology. It’s a brand-new engineering environment designed to support modern financial services across payments, onboarding, lending, and core banking capabilities. Our engineering organisation operates through autonomous product squads, supported by strong platform foundations and modern DevOps practices. AI-assisted development and agentic AI patterns are embedded across the lifecycle to accelerate delivery, automate operational workflows, and enhance decision-making.
The Role
As Technical Lead for a value stream, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across 1–3 engineering squads. You’ll be responsible for shaping architecture, supporting delivery teams, and ensuring that systems are designed with scalability, security, and resilience in mind. This role sits close to delivery rather than governance. You’ll collaborate with product, platform, security, and data teams to ensure engineering outcomes align with broader platform strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-own delivery outcomes alongside a Product Lead
- Shape cloud-native architecture and engineering standards
- Support squads in designing and delivering API-first and event-driven systems
- Ensure security, resilience, auditability, and scalability are embedded by design
- Collaborate with platform, data, and security teams to align with enterprise engineering standards
- Champion modern engineering practices including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and automated testing
Required Experience
- Proven technical leadership in high-velocity engineering environments (fintech, SaaS, technology platforms, or regulated sectors)
- Experience implementing agentic AI patterns to support intelligent workflows, automation, or decision support
- Knowledge of payments platforms and schemes such as Faster Payments, BACS, CHAPS, or SWIFT
- Cloud-native development experience including Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Experience leading and supporting multiple engineering squads
- Expertise in API-first and event-driven architectures
- Experience delivering systems with strong security, resilience, and auditability requirements
Technology Environment
Our teams work with a modern engineering stack including:
- Languages: TypeScript, Java, Python
- CI/CD: GitHub Actions, automated pipelines, semantic versioning
- Data & Streaming: Kafka, cloud data warehouse and lake architectures
- Observability: Metrics, distributed tracing, structured logging
- Security: Cloud-native secret management and automated security scanning
- AI Tooling: Integrated AI development tools and agentic AI workflows embedded into engineering processes
What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)
- Engineering squads operating with clear service boundaries and contracts
- Independent, high-frequency delivery supported by robust CI/CD pipelines
- Strong automated testing coverage improving delivery confidence
- Measurable reduction in production incidents and operational overhead
- Mature observability and operational practices across services
