We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Paramedic to join our multi-disciplinary team for 25-32 hours per week. The paramedic will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients. They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures. The paramedic will provide a holistic and clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing agreed management plans, and following approved protocols as appropriate. Supervision will be provided by designated GP at the practice. The role may also include clinical triage.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake acute assessments of patients within their own homes, making clinical judgments as to their further treatment.
  • Prescribe medications to patients in line with local PSD.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for managing their own care and treatment where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of every patient contact, including advice given. Records must be accurate and reflect the clinical activity in accordance with professional guidelines on clinical record keeping.
  • Complete all referral processes and liaise with outside agencies regarding these referrals as needed.
  • Provide regular support and feedback to the practice on patients at risk of being admitted to hospital.

Serving approximately 31,000 patients from our 4 surgeries in Earley, Lower Earley, Winnersh and Wilderness Road, we have a large multi-disciplinary team of around 130 people. Our collaborative team comprises Doctors, Physician Associates, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Pharmacists, Primary Care Paramedics, Health & Wellbeing Advisors, MSK Practitioners and Support & Administration staff. We recently won the HSJ (Health Services Journal) Digital Award for our innovative work we’ve done to refine our triage processes and model of care. Due to our size, we value communication and teamwork. We operate a strongly relational team structure and endeavour to listen well, encourage ownership and involvement, and enable staff to grow in their individual development. We, therefore, invest a lot of time in team meetings and communication across the organisation.

We are a training practice, use the EMIS Clinical system and have a strong emphasis on proactive teamwork. The successful candidate will work as part of the clinical team and be responsible for providing a high level of service to our patients.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Paramedic Science/Practice or a Paramedic Degree Apprenticeship
  • HCPC Registration: Must be a registered Paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Specialism in Respiratory or Diabetes

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience of working with healthcare professionals and or previous experience in the NHS
  • Previously working in a GP surgery
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Up-to-date CPD portfolio relevant to scope of practice
