Sous Chef
Help us serve food as memorable as the setting.
Location: Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey
Salary: c.£32,000 per annum, pro rata
Contract: Six-month fixed term – part-time, 24 hours per week
Reports to: Clubhouse Chef
Hours are worked as rostered and will include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. Time off in lieu is given for Bank Holiday working.
There aren’t many kitchens quite like this one.
Brooklands Museum occupies 32 acres of one of Britain’s most extraordinary historic sites - the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit, the birthplace of British motorsport and a site that played a defining role in British aviation.
Today it is a thriving visitor attraction welcoming more than 180,000 people a year, with a members’ Clubhouse, specialist lunches served alongside Concorde, conferences, corporate hospitality and major event days.
And we are looking for a Sous Chef to help us deliver all of it.
The opportunity
As Sous Chef, you will work alongside our Clubhouse Chef to produce the dishes they create, to a consistently high standard, across everything we cater for.
That means Members Bar service, Concorde specialist lunches and occasional dinners, our midweek conference offer and site catering on event days. One service might be lunch for members in the Clubhouse; the next could be a specialist dinner beside Delta Golf or feeding the crowds at a major motoring event.
You will keep a close eye on stock and wastage, help maintain our 5-star food hygiene rating and keep compliance records accurate and up to date.
You will also support and train the kitchen team, meet members after service to gather their feedback and ideas, and step up to plan and deliver the Members Bar offer when the Clubhouse Chef is away.
What you will bring
We are looking for a skilled, organised and adaptable chef who takes real pride in what leaves the pass. Your background might be in restaurants, hotels, events or contract catering - what matters is that you can hold a high standard when the kitchen is busy.
You will bring experience of:
- high-volume catering and bespoke à la carte dining
- working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, including busy event days
- kitchen operations, ingredients and menu styles
- health and safety and food hygiene requirements, with a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification as a minimum
- quality plating, with a realistic approach to high customer turnover
- maintaining stock levels, controlling portions and minimising wastage
- supporting and training kitchen colleagues
You’ll be self-motivated and confident working without close supervision, and you’ll stay calm and professional when the pressure is on. A Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification, or experience of catering in a museum, heritage site or visitor attraction, would be an advantage.
Why Brooklands?
Because few kitchens offer this much variety. You’ll be cooking among historic buildings, aircraft, racing cars and Concorde, for members who know us well and for visitors seeing it all for the first time.
You’ll have real scope to shape the offer too, developing dishes and ideas with the Catering and Hospitality team rather than simply working to a fixed menu.
And you'll be joining Brooklands at an exciting time. Following the centenary of Britain's first Grand Prix in the summer of 2026, we are building on increased awareness of the Museum and continuing to develop our visitor experiences, events and programmes.
As an independent charity, every meal we serve helps us care for an internationally important heritage site and share its stories with new audiences.
What we offer
Benefits include:
- 25 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays and Christmas Eve (pro rata)
- flexible Bank Holiday policy
- flexible working to support work-life balance
- 4% employer pension contribution
- free onsite parking
- 20% discount in our onsite café and Museum shop
- free access to Brooklands Museum
- retail discounts through our Reward Website
- online wellbeing support, including 24/7 telephone support and counselling
- trained Mental Health First Aiders
- opportunities for continuous learning and professional development.
Interested?
If you’re excited by the idea of cooking somewhere genuinely unlike anywhere else, we’d love to hear from you.
Please submit an up-to-date CV and a covering letter of no more than two sides of A4 explaining how your experience relates to the role, how you meet the person specification and what you could bring to Brooklands Museum.
Applications will be reviewed periodically, with shortlisted candidates contacted regarding the next stage of the selection process.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly value the different perspectives, experiences and ideas that people can bring to Brooklands.
