Student Support Officer

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Support Officer to join our supportive school community. The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and committed to helping every student achieve their full potential. You will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with students, families, teachers, and external agencies. A calm and resilient approach is essential, along with the ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs. You will be highly organised, proactive, and able to manage a varied workload while maintaining accurate records and safeguarding standards. Experience of supporting students with additional needs, social, emotional, and mental health challenges, or barriers to learning would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with diverse SEND, including Cognition and Learning, Speech, Language and Communication, and Autism.
  • Collaborate with specialist teachers, support staff and external professionals to provide a holistic and consistent approach to each pupil’s development.
  • Work with individual pupils, small groups, parents, staff and wider professionals to deliver targeted support.
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold safeguarding standards.
  • Adapt support strategies to meet individual needs and achieve students’ full potential.
  • Participate in a small class teaching environment (8–15 students) with highly personalised teaching.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated patience, empathy and resilience.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Highly organised and proactive, able to manage a varied workload.
  • Experience in supporting students with SEND or related challenges is advantageous.
