Legal Services Director required for a substantial brand focused on recoveries and debt collection for a range of private and public sector clients including household name brands. As a member of the Operational Leadership Team you'll report to the COO, and lead a legal function of over 20 staff, though having a more holistic mindset when it comes to the broader business will be encouraged.

Core aspects of the role

  • LITIGATION & LEGAL EXPERTISE: Responsible for leading all debt litigation services on behalf of the business and associated case management processes, from pre‑action triage on receipt of client/company instructions through to litigation and court proceedings. Client requirements vary but at the higher end individual claims can be £250K+ in value, and at times you'll also represent the business itself.
  • COMPLIANCE: Acting as ‘Compliance Officer for Legal Practice’ (COLP) as required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). The successful applicant will be required to maintain standards in line with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) SMCR regime.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT: Conduct risk assessment of debt litigation work types and client case instructions, ensuring risk is appropriately managed and mitigated in accordance with risk appetite and company policies.
  • STRATEGY: Set the strategy for the future development of the group’s litigation service provision, staying abreast of competitor offerings, new best practice approaches and case law.
  • TEAM LEADERSHIP: Lead, inspire, motivate and coach the Litigation Services team and wider team to foster engagement amongst colleagues at all levels.

Qualifications

The role should suit a qualified Solicitor of likely 5 years PQE and upwards, who has strong legal expertise and a desire to improve systems and strategy and who will champion change and improvements across the enforcement experience. Experience of leading a team of professionals and case managers through periods of growth, transition or change will be an advantage.

Location

The team is based in Sheffield but the business does have hybrid working practices so is open to candidates who live further afield and who would like a bespoke attendance pattern for long‑term viability. This is a full‑time position, taking into account the responsibilities of the role.
