A leading specialist law firm with a national reputation in crime, professional disciplinary, and civil actions is seeking a qualified solicitor to be based from Yorkshire but acting for clients across the North and Midlands.
Role Overview
- Provide criminal defence representation and support in disciplinary and professional misconduct cases.
- Manage your own varied caseload, with support from a small and expanding team.
- All work is privately funded or covered by insurance; no legal aid cases.
- Any 'call out' is on a private basis and requirements for that are infrequent so there's no Duty Rota work.
- A proven career step for those looking to move on from 'high street' criminal defence work.
Key Requirements
- Qualified solicitor with solid experience in criminal law (magistrates' court and police station work), NQ+ is appropriate.
- Experience in professional discipline or regulatory work is a plus, but not essential.
- Candidates from regulatory/white‑colour backgrounds will be considered if skills are transferable and if they're motivated to be representing individuals as opposed to companies.
- Professional manner and strong communication skills for representing private clients.
- Prepared to work independently and remotely when required, with in‑person office attendance a few times a week but on a very relaxed basis – you'll be trusted to do the work, and that means being out and about with clients.
- The clients are dispersed across the North of the UK so being able to drive would facilitate necessary client attendance.
Location
- Ideally based in or near Leeds (Yorkshire focus); some travel to surrounding areas required.
- Hybrid/remote working available; office attendance is flexible.
Compensation
- NQ solicitors: approx. £35,000+ depending on experience.
- No overtime, but higher basic salary should compensate for that.
