Are you passionate about supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse?
We are recruiting an experienced and compassionate Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner to join a specialist service in Leicester.
You will provide practical, emotional and culturally sensitive support to women and their children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse, helping them to remain safe, rebuild their confidence and move towards greater independence.
The Role
- Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support
- Complete referrals, needs assessments and risk assessments
- Develop and review individual support and safety plans
- Support women with housing, benefits, budgeting and accessing services
- Provide advocacy and support with appointments and external agencies
- Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
- Work closely with Social Care, MARAC, housing, healthcare and other professionals
- Support residents with move-on accommodation and resettlement
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records
What We're Looking For
- Experience supporting vulnerable women, children or families
- Experience within domestic abuse, refuge, supported housing, social care or a similar setting
- Good knowledge of domestic abuse and safeguarding
- Strong risk assessment and advocacy skills
- Understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Good communication and record-keeping skills
- A compassionate, culturally sensitive and non-judgmental approach
- Fluent English plus at least one additional BAME community language
- Enhanced DBS or willingness to undertake one
Knowledge of honour-based violence, forced marriage, FGM and No Recourse to Public Funds would be advantageous.
Essential Language Requirement
Due to the needs of the women accessing the service, applicants must be fluent in English and able to speak at least one additional BAME community language.
Due to the nature of the service and the support provided to female service users, this position requires a female practitioner.
