The Role
We are recruiting an Assistant Waking Night Childcare Worker to join a caring and committed residential team supporting children overnight. This role plays a vital part in ensuring children feel safe, settled, and supported throughout the night in a residential educational setting.
You will work closely with care staff, teachers, and therapists to provide consistent, child-centred overnight care that supports each child's wellbeing, development, and individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children to achieve a restful night's sleep while maintaining safety and wellbeing
- Implement and follow individual care and Personal Development Plans during night shifts
- Provide toileting support and assist with specific eating and drinking programmes where required
- Maintain accurate night-time records and handovers
- Carry out practical duties including cleaning, preparing resources, and setting up for the following day
- Contribute to children's personal, social, and emotional development
- Adhere strictly to safeguarding policies and procedures
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children, ideally those with additional or special educational needs
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn
- Signed Supported English
- Understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management principles
- Ability to work waking night shifts reliably and independently
- Right to work in the UK and ability to pass enhanced DBS checks
Desirable
- Relevant childcare qualifications
- Experience supporting female children with communication or speech and language needs
- First Aid or Positive Behaviour/Physical Intervention training
