As a Senior Tradesperson, you will supervise a local team of tradespersons, labourers and apprentices, ensuring the effective delivery of day-to-day repairs, maintenance and void works. You will use your technical expertise to diagnose and carry out repairs, support colleagues on site, and ensure excellent customer service at every stage. You will take responsibility for monitoring job tickets and timesheets, updating the Saffron IT system, managing performance, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. You will also work closely with Locality Officers, follow up customer complaints, and contribute to service improvements through accurate reporting and performance data. This is a hands-on supervisory role, requiring strong technical skills across multiple trades, the ability to lead and support a team, and a commitment to delivering high-quality repairs that meet the needs of our tenants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out and supervise repairs and maintenance across tenants' homes, and other Council buildings.
  • Diagnose repair needs and ensure work is completed to a high standard across trades such as plumbing, carpentry, plastering and general building.
  • Provide on-site support and expert advice to tradespersons and apprentices.
  • Ensure accurate completion and verification of job tickets, timesheets and system updates.
  • Manage sickness, leave, performance and conduct within your team.
  • Follow up customer complaints and ensure issues are resolved promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including Section 11 and Section 82 obligations.
  • Maintain safe working practices and ensure all risk assessments and health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Support the delivery of the out-of-hours service when required.
  • Work flexibly across bases including Crossgates and locality offices.
  • Trustworthy and respectful when entering tenants' homes.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, plastering, bricklaying, fencing or electrical.
  • Ability to diagnose and carry out repair work to a high standard.
  • Experience supervising or supporting diverse employee groups (desirable).
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work flexibly to meet customer needs.
  • Good team-working skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Calm, professional and customer-focused approach.
  • A relevant qualification in a building-related trade (essential).
