An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced SCPHN school nurse to join the Bromley 0-19 service. The service is currently going through a period of transformation and innovative development. The post-holder will be the named School Nurse for a caseload of schools within the borough. This role will incorporate a supervisory role for staff nurses working within the school nursing service.
The post holder will work as a member of the School Nursing Service and will work with schools, families, and the wider community to improve the health of school-aged children identifying the more vulnerable, and developing clear referral pathways so that all children and young people can reach their full potential. This will be achieved by delivering the requirements from the service specification. They will work closely with the identified senior lead in each school providing expert information, guidance, and assessments as required. They will support schools to empower parents, children and young people, to make decisions which affect their health and wellbeing. They will work across health and education professionals and institutions, breaking down barriers to improve the sharing of information, ideas, and expertise.
Main duties of the job include:
- Developing appropriate databases, contributing to reports as necessary, reporting any issues/concerns that may arise, and ensuring that the service meets all targets in the service specification.
- Working in partnership with the local Health Visiting service to ensure seamless care as the child progresses from the early years into school.
- Adhering to and working within local and national child safeguarding policies in the prevention and early detection of abuse in all age groups.
- Developing accurate factual reports, attending case conferences, and other multi-professional meetings as required for identified children and their families.
- Meeting with all identified children at least once a term, and referring/signposting to other professionals/services if identified.
- Working in partnership with primary care, ensuring that where appropriate, the relevant GP practice is notified of CYP health concerns, to secure an integrated system of care that safeguards them.
- Promoting emotional well-being through the school-aged years working alongside children and young people to support those with emotional and mental health difficulties and referring to CAMHS where appropriate.
- Ensuring services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner adapting the service provision accordingly to promote equal access to services.
- Attending regular team meetings to promote effective communication and team, leading by example promoting best practices and high standards at all times.
Applicants must hold a Specialist Community Public Health Qualification in School Nursing, and ideally have post-graduate experience of working within a School Nursing team. Applicants must adhere to the NMC Code and maintain their own professional requirements in line with the NMC revalidation procedure. Applicants must participate actively in continuing education programmes, and accept responsibility for their own professional and self-development.

Salary is dependent on NHS experience and current banding/pay point.
