Consultant Paediatrician – Community Paediatrics

Job Overview

Location: Bromley – Phoenix Children’s Resource Centre (and other community sites).

Contract: Permanent, part‑time (7.5 sessions per week).

Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 plus a local award of £2,162 pa (pro‑ratio).

Closing date: 11/05/2026 (23:59).

Main Duties

  • Deliver comprehensive community paediatric services with a primary focus on neurodevelopmental referrals and health assessments for Children Looked After.
  • Provide child protection work (physical abuse investigations) on a pro‑ratio basis.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams (CAMHS, GPs, allied health professionals).
  • Shape a flexible job plan around specialist interests in neurodevelopment, ADHD, ASD and complex neurodisability.
  • Engage in service innovation and quality improvement initiatives; no out‑of‑hours on‑call commitments.

Person Specification

Professional Qualifications

  • MRCPCH (or equivalent) and GMC registration.
  • Specialist Registration or within six months of CCT in Community Child Health, Community Paediatrics/Neurodisability or General Paediatrics.
  • Portfolio Pathway (CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register.
  • Higher degree (MSc, MD, PhD) in Paediatrics or related discipline (optional).
  • Registered special interest in additional paediatric fields (optional).

Training & Clinical Experience

  • Highest specialist paediatric training competency or equivalent.
  • Valid BLS, APLS and NLS certifications.
  • Experience and knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders, ADHD, ASD, and complex neurodisability management in community settings.
  • Experience with child protection (physical abuse) and management of suspected abuse.
  • Experience in clinical audit/quality improvement projects and evidence‑based practice.
  • Willingness to teach at all levels, including medical students and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice, Children and Families Act 2014 and current NHS changes.
  • Previous NHS experience, particularly in community paediatrics, desirable.

Knowledge & Personal Skills

  • Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including delivering difficult news.
  • Strong negotiation, clinical leadership and risk‑management skills.
  • Capacity to lead QA/QI projects and multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in planning, appraisal and skill‑development processes.
