We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join as Locum Consultant or the post can be offered for a more time-limited period if preferred on a mutually agreed basis. This is a replacement post that has become available following a step down and initiatives to deal with backlogs and increasing waiting times.

The post holder will be part of a dynamic and experienced community paediatric team of Consultants, Paediatric trainees, Associate Specialists and a Specialty doctor who provide the full range of community paediatric services. The post holder will have competence in the assessment, diagnosis and management in neurodisability, child development and in behavioural and social paediatrics including Children Looked After.

Main duties of the job:
  • The post holder will be mainly expected to see referrals with neuro-developmental concerns but there would be flexibility in the job plan to accommodate candidate's other special interests.
  • The post holder will be required to do child protection work pro-rata (physical abuse only).
  • The post does not have out-of-hours on-call commitments.
  • This is a part-time (8.5 PAs) post, but we would welcome applicants who might wish to work full time or less than full time, as the need arises.

Compensation is contingent upon NHS experience and current banding/pay point. Person specification:
  • Understanding of medical leadership and role in improving patient care and staff morale.
  • Familiarity with the management and structure of the NHS.
  • Willingness to lead service change.
  • Evidence of leadership attributes and experience.
  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration, and License to Practise in the UK.
  • Must be on the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT or equivalent in Community Child Health, Community Paediatrics/Neurodisability or General Paediatrics at time of scheduled interview.
  • Higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD in Paediatrics, MSc (Community Paediatrics) or similar.
  • Experience in the diagnosis and management of ADHD/Autism Spectrum Disorder, and identifying comorbidities or coexisting conditions.
  • Knowledge of 0-25 SEND Code of Practice and Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, including communicating bad news.
