Bromley Experts by Experience is a small, ambitious Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation. You will help us build strong foundations for our future approach to creating change for Deaf & Disabled People in Bromley.

What difference will you make? An active, engaged and experienced Board is vital for our continued development. With a growing staff team and new Trustee Board, we are committed to further developing governance mechanisms and supporting the Board to reach their potential. You will be central to shaping how the wider Trustee Board supports our mission, vision and values.

We have recently secured our biggest ever funding agreement from the National Lottery for a new Youth Transition Project. Your role will help ensure all new activity meets our charitable objectives and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • As part of a new, expanded board of trustees, you will work with the CEO, Chair of Trustees, and the staff team to build on recent work and expand our professional expertise so we can continue our work across Bromley, making real differences in the lives of local Deaf and Disabled people.
  • You will particularly contribute expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Fundraising Strategy
    • Support funding sustainability, maximise and diversify income streams and fundraising activity.
    • Support the development of a Fundraising Policy and Plan of Action.
    • Build and maintain relationships with funders and commissioners.
  • Human Resources
    • Support compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations.
    • Advise on good practice in staffing and HR matters.
    • Support the development and review of HR policies and procedures.
  • Legal and Policy
    • Guide on relevant legal and policy matters, including contracts and governance.
    • Support organisational strategy and help shape strategic direction and implementation.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Lived Experience of disability (self‑identified).
  • Belief that Disabled people can and should be actively welcomed and included; understanding the Social Model of Disability.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Experience of how Trustee Boards operate and effective charity governance.
  • Accuracy, efficiency and eye for detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, communicating in an accessible way.
  • Integrity, objectivity, accountability and honesty.
  • Effective team worker, contributing an independent perspective.
  • Understanding of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, and financial aspects of running a charity.
  • Genuine interest in local communities and people.
  • Commitment to Bromley Experts by Experience’s aims, objectives and values.
  • Legal eligibility to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee. Previous trusteeship experience is an advantage.
