We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated experienced general practice pharmacist to work in Barnet who is committed to developing their knowledge and skills to improve patient care in general practice.

GL@GP recruits, employs, trains and supports pharmacists working in General Practice to deliver high quality patient services. We currently deliver Practice/PCN Pharmacist services to a number of General Practices and PCNs across Greater London.

We have a reputation for providing pharmacists who are ready to work in general practice by preparing and training them using experienced practice based pharmacists (PBPs) and GP Trainers. We work with the GP partners in the Bromley-by-Bow Health Partnership to enable a training environment for pharmacists.

NB. This position is based in Barnet PCN1. The East London postcode noted in this listing is our training centre.

Main duties of the job

  • Qualifications & Experience essential for the role:
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience with at least 2 years in General Practice
  • Certificate in Non-medical prescribing
  • Experience of using prescribing qualification in General Practice
  • Evidence of further education in clinical pharmacy e.g. Completion of NHS Pathway Training for Practice Pharmacists or a Clinical Pharmacy Diploma (to apply for exemption from the NHS pathway training)

Successful candidates will be part of a team of GL@GP PBPs who meet 2-3 times a month to train together and to learn from and support each other. In your application please state your current notice period and whether you drive.

Green Light is an independent employee owned Group providing GP Practice Pharmacist, Community Pharmacy, Education & Training and Consultancy services. The GL@GP team is led by a pharmacist, Sharon Hart, who in addition to having experience in a variety of pharmacy sectors, also has experience of leadership development/training and change management. Sharon works to support individual and team development and growth. GL@GP Pharmacists have access to this support and the opportunity to develop their non-clinical skills through formal and informal mentoring and coaching.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is an experienced general practice pharmacist, who acts within their professional boundaries, supported and working alongside a team of GreenLight pharmacists in general practice. In this role they will be supported by practice GPs and the GL@GP Director who will develop, manage and mentor them.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide clinical pharmacy leadership for the practice, taking responsibility for, and not limited to, Structured Medication Reviews, areas of chronic disease management, medicines optimisation, quality improvement, the quality and outcomes framework and other enhanced services.

The post holder will be responsible for leading, training and coordinating the work of less experienced pharmacy professionals to proactively and competently manage repeat prescribing systems, deal with acute prescription requests and medicines reconciliation on transfer of care, if necessary putting in place systems for safer prescribing, providing expertise in clinical medicines advice while addressing both public and social care needs of patients in the GP practices.

The post holder will provide support to practice staff with regards to prescription and medication queries, ensuring integration with community and hospital pharmacy to help utilise skill mix, improve patient outcomes, ensure better access to healthcare and help manage GP workload.

The role is pivotal to improving quality of care and operational efficiencies and so requires motivation and passion to deliver excellent service within general practice.
