As a result of our continued growth and expansion throughout the UK, we are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join our busy design department at our Welwyn Garden City Head Office.

Purpose
To interpret our Client’s requirements to produce efficient, functional engineering access solutions for all of Brogan Group’s temporary works services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Be a point of contact for design related queries from our internal team and external customers
- Able to interpret design requirements and build/dismantle methodologies are accurately translated into the design output, and that the design follows appropriate engineering principles including any assumed construction methods, sequences, temporary works requirements, and loads to be either imposed on or supported by the permanent works
- Able to produce Design Drawings, Design Calculations, Design Risk Assessments and Design Check Certificates
- Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators (TWC) and Temporary Works Supervisors (TWS) on our projects
- Liaison with our Project Team and the Principal Contractor (PC) TWC And TWS
- Assisting PC’s TWC in their preparation of design briefs
- Formal appointment as Temporary Works Designer (TWD) or Temporary Works Design Checker (TWDC)
- Understanding design briefs issued from our PC’s TWC to for the development of temporary works designs
- Providing information regarding proposed TW Designers and Design Checkers
- Providing design and design check certificates to PC’s TWC
- Ensure our temporary works structures are inspected within statutory requirements
- When required, checking erected temporary works on our projects before loading/unloading, and issue a notice to prevent loading if defects, or discrepancies have been identified that require closing out
- Responsible to our Designated Individual (DI) and the PC’s TWC in ensuring that our temporary works are managed and designed in accordance with relevant procedures, drawings, and specification
- Agree the ‘Category of Design Checks’ and the ‘Implementation Risk Class’ with the PC’s and Brogan Group’s TWC
- Based on the ‘Implementation Risk Class’ agree with the PC’s TWC the proposed construction, inspection, maintenance, removal permit control and who is authorised to issue Permits to Load, Unload or Dismantle
- Ensure documentation is transferred to our Project Team for distribution to our Clients and our key internal contacts (TWC, TWS) responsible for working with the relevant temporary works structures
- Ensure all activities meet with legislative, regulatory, industry and client specific requirements

Skill and Experience
- Minimum an HNC in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
- Preferably registered with one of the recognised engineering institutions I.e. ICE, IStructE, IET, etc
- And/or has a minimum 5 years proven experience in a large scaffolding contractor’s design office
- And/or has a minimum 5 years proven experience in a principal contractor’s temporary works design department
- Experience in the design of traditional tube and fitting and system scaffolding
- Experience in construction hoists would be beneficial (passenger goods, goods only and transport platforms), mast climber work platforms, common towers, cantilevered loading platforms, cradles, and lorry loader crane lifting operations
- Experience of 2D and 3D design software and supporting applications (AutoCAD 3D, Revit)
- Experience of producing NASC TG20 and TG30 Compliance Certificates
- Preferably with an experience and knowledgeable of temporary works as a TWD or TWDC
- Preferably with an experience of completing Forms F001, F002, F003 and DRN comments or rail specific projects
- Preferably with some experience in the Industrial, Power and Air sectors would be an advantage
- Capable of working in a demanding and busy environment to consistently meet project deadlines
- Capable of handling a high workload and single handedly producing all supporting design work, including design drawings, design risk assessments, design check certificates, design calculations, for large temporary works projects from pre-tender stage through to completion on site
- Able to work autonomously in a mixed mobile role between office and sites
- Experience of supporting a business contract and/or providing support to a professional function
Additional Supporting Qualification
- Must hold a current full Driving Licence (UK)
- Must be computer literate as email, word and excel are essential for the role
- Preferably with (or can be given training in) Temporary Works Coordinator (CITB 2-day)
- Building Safety Act 2025 Awareness (eLearning or formal)
- Fire Safety Awareness in Construction (CITB)
- CDM Regulations 2015 (eLearning or Formal)
