Position type: 40hrs (7.30am - 4.30pm Monday - Thursday, 7.30am - 1.30pm Friday)

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Assistant to join our team. Reporting to the Facilities Director, you will play a key role in ensuring our two sites are fully operational at all times. Specifically, the role will support hands-on technical support with planning, compliance, coordination, writing reports, including the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) reports, building PPM schedules and sourcing spare parts and materials. This is a ‘hands-on’ role; the job holder will come from a background in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building maintenance or similar. You will bring a strong understanding of site conditions, plant, tool and work equipment. Duties

  • Support isolation, reinstatement, and testing of equipment during maintenance or repair works.
  • Provide technical input into method statements, risk assessments, and permits to work.
  • Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for contractors regarding site standards and equipment condition.
  • Support commissioning and decommissioning of equipment and assets.
  • Verify completed works to ensure they meet technical and safety standards.

Compliance & Maintenance Planning

  • Review and maintain PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) reports.
  • Develop, update, and manage Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with statutory requirements (PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate asset registers, maintenance logs, and inspection records.
  • Support internal and external audits and inspections.

Procurement & Parts Sourcing

  • Source spare parts, components, tools, and consumables, ensuring technical compatibility.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to identify correct specifications and alternatives.
  • Raise purchase orders and track parts from order through to delivery.

General Facilities Support

  • Support day-to-day facilities operations across buildings and plant.
  • Ensure all activities align with health & safety policies and site procedures.

Key skills and experience

  • Experience in a facility maintenance environment.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative.
  • Practical understanding of equipment condition, servicing requirements, and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Driving Licence (essential).

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Knowledge of additional compliance areas (LOLER, Legionella, COSHH, Fire Safety).
  • First Aid, PASMA, IPAF, or similar site competencies.
