Here at Brockenhurst College, we are looking to recruit an Engineering Technician on a part -time, term time only basis. In return,you will receive a competitive salary of £23,556 per annum, pro rata.

We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

The Role:

As our Engineering Technician, you will undertake a range of technical duties in support of the academic function split between electronics and mechanical engineering workshop support.

Responsibilities as our Engineering Technician will include:

  • Assisting in the development of new equipment, practical\’s, and projects including building, testing and debugging prototype circuits and costing
  • Assisting in the production of sets of printed circuit boards or component kits for class groups. As well as supporting with general Mechanical engineering
  • Checking stocks of equipment and materials and placing orders for replacement and new items in consultation with the Head of Curriculum. Maintaining a collection of catalogues. Taking delivery of equipment and materials and updating stock lists, index and inventory
  • Monitoring and updating department budget using department spreadsheet
  • Track student project costs, using departmental spreadsheet
  • Recycling electronic components back into stock after student use
  • Assisting the lecturing staff when requested, in the running of practical/laboratory base classes by
  • providing learning support to students
  • Preparing, setting up, clearing away and storing apparatus, equipment and materials for lessons,
  • demonstrations etc.
  • Issuing materials and equipment in a safe condition to students and staff
  • Assisting staff in the use of apparatus and equipment

As our Engineering Technician, you\’ll ideally have:

  • Good basic education including Maths, Science and Communications
  • Experience of working in a technical environment involving use of tools, order processing, stock control etc or equivalent
  • The ability to contribute to the maintenance of a safe working environment for all users of the work areas
  • The ability to attend to detail and maintain order in a busy working environment
  • A willingness to learn new skills and contribute to new developments as part of a team
