Brockenhurst College have an opportunity for a Senior Technician – Marine/Site to join the team on a part-time, annualised hours basis at our Marchwood Site. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £23,014 – £25,280 pro rata. We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities. As our Senior Technician, you will: Support a team of technicians – offering guidance and mentoring when applicable Responsible for maintenance/upkeep of the Marchwood site and liaising with estates team and external contractors to oversee maintenance and servicing of the site’s infrastructure Support the lecturing staff on the delivery of courses to advise students of techniques and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment Preparing, setting up, clearing away, washing up where applicable and storing equipment and materials for lessons, demonstrations etc. Maintain the workshop areas in a safe and functional state Issuing tools and equipment in a safe condition to students and staff Assisting students where applicable in areas of Marine Engineering/Marine Electrical/Boatbuilding/Composites Assisting staff and students in the use of apparatus and equipment Occasional physical demonstration of machines (wood/engineering machines) to members of staff and students, where this requires the application of acquired skills Construct, maintain, fault find, repair and service all marine equipment where necessary and arrange repair in liaison with the Head of Curriculum Assist in the development of new equipment and workshop activities Responsibilities as our Senior Technician will include: Give a high profile to equality of opportunity in all areas of activity, including compliance with the Equal Opportunities Policy Aim to provide a safe and secure environment for all our students in compliance with our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy Ensure compliance with the Disability Statement, including the need to notify HR of any changes in circumstances Participate in the agreed scheme for staff development, training and appraisal and be committed to continuous personal and professional development Carry out all duties with due regard to Health and Safety Regulations Ensure compliance with the Financial Regulations of the College Ensure compliance with the College Computer and Telecommunication Systems regulations, policies, and procedures Notify Personnel of any changes in personal details. For example, a change of name or address, car registration number, telephone number, next of kin/emergency contact details etc. As our Senior Technician, you’ll ideally have/be: Appropriate qualification in Marine Engineering – Level 3 or equivalent Able to manage learners and learning effectively Working knowledge of the sector either on board a ship or in a shipyard/boatyard Able to develop effective learning resources to support the delivery Knowledge and understanding of current developments in a relevant curriculum area.
