We are seeking a highly capable Principal Development Engineer to contribute to the technical architecture, integration design, and evolution of our enterprise platform. This role is not just about coding — the individual will be expected to actively understand business and technical problems, propose practical solutions, and work independently where possible while collaborating across multiple teams. The right candidate will combine strong analytical ability and domain knowledge with a solid grounding in technical architecture and integration concepts, enabling them to design scalable, sustainable, and cost‑effective solutions. This is a senior engineering role that balances hands‑on contribution to solution design with structured collaboration across product, engineering, and client‑facing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial scoping and high‑level costing for potential client projects.
- Provide effort estimates and assess integration complexity, ensuring a clear understanding of scope, rationale, and trade‑offs.
- Technical Architecture & Integration Design
- Lead project initiation from a technical architecture perspective, with a focus on integration patterns and flows.
- Contribute to the design of the Corporate Actions solution and its integration into the Broadridge Platform, including technical connectivity (e.g. Kafka, MQ, Files).
- Collaborate with Product Management on data modelling for instruments, parties, positions, transactions, announcements, elections, and other financial objects.
- Define and document logic placement decisions.
- Pre‑Sales Technical Support
- Answer internal pre‑sales questions around Corporate Actions and Broadridge Platform architecture.
- Produce and maintain high‑quality architecture diagrams showing client integration and Broadridge’s Corporate Actions Platform.
- Ensure documentation is kept current with evolving design decisions.
- Work independently to investigate technical challenges, propose solutions, and engage engineering teams where broader collaboration is required.
- Facilitate discussions on trade‑offs (cost, performance, scalability, complexity) and actively participate in selecting the best approach.
- Ensure consistency of integration design and architectural approach across multiple projects.
Skills & Experience
- Strong background in software engineering, systems integration, and technical architecture.
- Solid understanding of data modelling, messaging/streaming architectures (Kafka), and relational databases (Postgres).
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise integration solutions, ideally within financial services or other complex transactional domains.
- Hands‑on experience working in Agile development environments.
- Ability to clearly articulate and explain architectural decisions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Skilled in producing and maintaining architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to balance technical, cost, and performance considerations.
- Experience supporting pre‑sales engagements, including demos, technical Q&A, and solution presentations.
Preferred Attributes
- Background in capital markets, regulatory, or compliance‑driven environments.
- Exposure to large‑scale or multi‑client platforms, with considerations for performance, customization, and maintainability.
- Familiarity with integration technologies and concepts such as:
- REST APIs
- File‑based integration
- Cloud hosting (including cost and performance considerations)
This role is considered hybrid.
