Job Description
Seeking skilledExternal Boat Buildersto join a leading name in the marine sector. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of high-quality vessels, from leisure yachts to custom builds, contributing to projects that demand precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
As an External Boat Builder, youll be responsible for fitting, assembling, and finishing key external systems and components. Youll work closely with engineers, designers, and production teams, ensuring all work is carried out to exacting standards of safety, quality, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting drawings and technical plans.
- Assembly and installation of steering systems.
- Fitting keel and skin fittings to specification.
- Installing deck gear and teak decks.
- Installation of windows, portlights, and hatches.
- Assembly and installation of drive chain propulsion systems.
- Shaft fitting and alignment.
- Fit-out of lazerettes and external compartments.
- Fitting and bonding various fibreglass components.
- Levelling boats and ensuring structural accuracy.
- Performing light laminating tasks as required.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Boat Builder, Marine Engineer, or in a similar role within the marine sector.
- Strong understanding of marine construction methods, materials, and systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality workmanship.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Awareness of health & safety practices in marine or manufacturing environments.
Desirable Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or NVQ/SVQ in Boatbuilding, Marine Engineering, or a related trade.
- Knowledge of laminating and composite materials.
Previous experience working on high-specification or luxury vessels
