Cost Accountant in Plymouth

Plymouth Full-Time On-site
B

Salary range: Β£40K to Β£45K dependent on qualification and experience

Site: Newport Street Plymouth Devon

Working days:

Monday – Thursday 07:30 – 16:30,

Friday 07:30 – 12:30

Please note this is a fully onsite role.

We’re recruiting a Cost Accountant a well-established name in the luxury yacht manufacturing industry.

The role is focused on understanding the true cost of building the company's boats; from the individual components and materials through to the finished product. You'd work closely with the Production, Procurement and Design teams to make sure costs are accurate, update the company's costing system and report on the profit margins achieved when each boat is completed.

A big part of the position is also looking for ways to improve profitability β€” whether that's identifying cost savings, reducing excess stock or improving the accuracy of material costing.

It's a good opportunity for someone with manufacturing costing experience who enjoys working with operational teams rather than focusing purely on traditional finance duties.

Key selling points

Early finish every Friday

Monday to Thursday, 7:30am–4:30pm, and Friday, 7:30am–12:30pm. That's a 12:30pm finish every Friday, which is a useful benefit to highlight.

Luxury manufacturing environment

Work for an established manufacturer producing high-value boats and yachts, in a specialist industry where quality, design and engineering are central to the product.

Make a real commercial impact

Help the business understand its manufacturing costs, improve gross profit margins and identify opportunities to save money.

Work beyond the finance department

Collaborate with Production, Design, Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics rather than spending all day working solely with financial figures.

Opportunity to influence improvements

Identify cost-saving initiatives, reduce excess stock and improve the accuracy of materials costing and planning.

Career development

Suitable for someone who wants to build on their manufacturing costing experience, develop their accounting qualifications and broaden their commercial knowledge.

Your strongest candidates will have:

  • Cost accounting experience within manufacturing.
  • Experience calculating the cost of products, components or materials.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills.
  • Experience investigating cost variances, stock discrepancies or opportunities to improve margins.
  • Confidence communicating financial information to non-finance colleagues.
  • A proactive approach and an interest in understanding how a business operates.

Candidates with general accounts experience but no manufacturing costing exposure may be less suitable

PITCH

I'm recruiting for a Cost Accountant position with a well-established manufacturer of luxury boats and yachts.

It's a varied, commercially focused role where you'd be responsible for making sure the company's boats and individual components are accurately costed. You'd work closely with the Production, Procurement and Design teams to understand the true cost of manufacturing each boat, update the company's costing system and report on profit margins once each boat is completed.

A key part of the role is identifying opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs, improve stock accuracy and increase profitability. So, it's not just a traditional finance role β€” you'd be working directly with operational teams and helping the business make informed commercial decisions.

It's a great opportunity to join a major regional manufacturing business, work with high-value products and build relationships across different departments. There's also scope for someone who wants to continue developing their accounting qualifications and progress their career.

The working hours are Monday to Thursday, 7:30am to 4:30pm, with an early finish at 12:30pm on Fridays.
