SC Clearance Required (or ability to obtain). We are recruiting for a motivated and organised Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex marine and defence engineering projects within a highly regulated vessel support environment. This role will play a key part in the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering activities across vessel upgrade, maintenance, and modification programmes. Working closely with internal teams, OEMs, contractors, and defence stakeholders, the successful candidate will take ownership of technical project delivery and support the implementation of engineering solutions onboard naval and marine assets. The role would suit an engineer with strong technical knowledge, project coordination experience, and a background within marine, mechanical, electrical, or defence engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and manage technical scopes of work in collaboration with suppliers, OEMs, contractors, and customers.
  • Support the engineering delivery of vessel upgrades, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Lead technical planning activities, ensuring specifications and deliverables are achievable and clearly defined.
  • Provide engineering oversight during contractor and OEM activities both on-site and remotely.
  • Liaise with defence and customer stakeholders to ensure compliance with engineering and regulatory standards.
  • Support projects from initial request through to execution and close-out.
  • Assist in preparing work packages, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Monitor project progress and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and contribute to project reporting.
  • Support cost estimation, resource planning, and change control processes.
  • Attend project meetings as a technical representative.
  • Assist clients in identifying and resolving engineering or operational issues to minimise disruption to vessel capability.

About You

  • HNC/HND or Degree qualified within Mechanical, Marine, Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • Previous experience within a Project Engineering or Technical Engineering role.
  • Strong technical problem-solving ability with hands-on engineering understanding.
  • Experience managing multiple technical workstreams and coordinating stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of engineering project delivery, maintenance planning, and OEM coordination.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, and SharePoint.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within marine, defence, shipbuilding, naval, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Previous support of MOD, Royal Navy, or RFA assets.
  • Knowledge of Classification Society, Flag State, or defence engineering regulations.
  • Project management qualifications such as APM, PRINCE2, or similar.
  • Existing SC Clearance advantageous.
