CAD Designer & Implementation Specialist – SWOOD / SolidWorks in High Wycombe

SolidWorks & SWOOD Designer / Implementation Specialist Are you confident using SolidWorks and SWOOD—but equally comfortable talking to CNC operators and cabinet makers about how a design will actually be manufactured? We’re looking for an experienced SolidWorks & SWOOD Designer / Implementation Specialist to join a well-established commercial furniture manufacturer on a permanent, full-time basis. This is more than a standard drawing role. You’ll help shape the complete design-to-manufacturing process: creating accurate furniture designs, developing SWOOD systems and ensuring every detail works from the initial model through to CNC production, assembly and installation. If you enjoy solving manufacturing problems, improving systems and turning great designs into products that work properly on the workshop floor, this could be an excellent opportunity. The role Working closely with the design, production and project teams, you’ll take ownership of producing practical, manufacturing-ready designs for a varied range of commercial furniture projects. Your responsibilities will include: * Producing detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks * Using SWOOD Design and SWOOD CAM to develop furniture and cabinetry for production * Creating accurate cutting lists, machining data and manufacturing information * Developing SWOOD libraries, materials, components and manufacturing processes * Configuring and improving SWOOD to meet the company’s manufacturing requirements * Designing products for efficient CNC production, including nesting, drilling and routing operations * Working with CNC operators, cabinet makers and production teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable * Troubleshooting design, software and machining issues * Improving the accuracy, efficiency and automation of design-to-manufacturing processes * Supporting the introduction of new products, systems and manufacturing methods The key is understanding how each product will actually be made—not simply producing a design that looks right on screen. About you: * Strong practical experience using SolidWorks * Working knowledge of SWOOD Design and ideally SWOOD CAM * Experience designing furniture, cabinetry or related products for CNC manufacture * A practical understanding of commercial furniture or cabinet construction * Knowledge of materials, hardware, fittings and manufacturing methods * The ability to produce clear, accurate technical and manufacturing drawings * A problem-solving mindset and strong attention to detail * The confidence to communicate with both office-based and workshop teams * A proactive approach to improving systems and processes Experience implementing or developing SWOOD systems would be a major advantage. This could include creating libraries, configuring components, setting up materials and hardware, developing machining rules or improving the flow of information from design into production. Additional experience with nesting, drilling, routing, CNC programming, ERP/MRP systems or commercial interior fit-out would also be valuable.
