Risk Business Partner – Retail Banking – mortgages, savings – £60,000-£70,000

The client has a fantastic opportunity for a Risk Business Partner to provide high quality risk input on matters relating to business strategy, new products, change initiatives, risk committees papers, risk registers and incidents as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the strategic aims of the business areas you support, together with the day to day context of doing business
  • Facilitate the risk register process for partnered functions including identification of risk, the design of controls, the assessment of risk in light of how well controls are operating and guide them through the risk acceptance and risk mitigation processes when necessary
  • Support and challenge the business in the identification, definition and setting of appropriate thresholds for risk and controls measures, including Board Risk Appetite metrics
  • Support the business in defining good customer outcomes and generally be a strong advocate for the customer
  • Review and challenge risk forum and committee papers and proposals as well as policies, processes and governance methodologies
  • Educate and coach partnered business areas on core risk methodologies and governance requirements as well as use of the Risk Management system, as appropriate to their roles and circumstances
  • Understand and encourage business engagement with other risk specialisms – including Data Governance, Information Security and Supplier Management
  • Understand the change agenda, representing second line on key projects and providing challenge on the impact for the risk and control environment

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience of the financial services industry and/or a technology-based service provider
  • Risk specialist in Conduct risk, with a good working knowledge of the other risk types – Credit, Operational and Financial
  • Understanding and application of FCA and legal requirements related to conduct within consumer finance.
  • Understand what Consumer Duty means for the consumer finance industry and what the new Consumer Principle, Cross-cutting rules and four Outcomes are.
  • Risk Appetite โ€“ experience of developing and monitoring risk appetite proposals for consideration by senior management / board, in conjunction with proven experience in reviewing and challenging the businessโ€™s risk profile ensuring operation within risk appetite
  • Risk Governance โ€“ experience of risk frameworks and ensuring strong risk governance within the relevant functions
  • Risk Processes and Methodologies โ€“ experience developing, reviewing and challenging Credit, Conduct and Operational risks
  • Communication and engagement โ€“ experience developing a proactive engagement strategy with key partners to ensure the nature and scale of risks and the approach to the resolution of them is understood and reported upon
  • Ability to work in partnership with the business with excellent interpersonal skills โ€“ oral/written communication, collaboration and influencing skills
