We have an opportunity available for a part time Caretaker / Handyperson to join our team to provide efficient and effective caretaker support to the scheme/establishment including ensuring the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards and that systems operate at optimum efficiency.
The role involves maintaining the efficient running of scheme operations through the premises and its contents, opening and closing premises (gates, doors, windows) for the purpose of residents' use, room lettings, maintenance and emergency services. You will conduct health and safety checks throughout, making sure emergency exits are kept clear and alarms tests are carried out, reporting any issues and documenting all inspections.
As part of your responsibilities, you will monitor systems and functions, including regular checks of heating systems, water temperatures and replace lamps/bulbs and domestic fuses. You will maintain records for repairs and heating systems, reporting all defects and malfunctions.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Removing waste bags from designated bin stores and other localities to central bin collection areas.
- Ensuring bin areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Clearing blockages, removing foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc. and cleaning up spillages (which may include bodily spillages).
- Ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to the premises particularly in adverse weather conditions.
- Reporting any acts of vandalism to the scheme coordinator and/or Police as necessary.
- Undertaking porterage tasks as required including setting up and clearing away furniture.
- Taking delivery of post, stores materials and other goods, unpacking and storing stock ensuring inventories are maintained as directed.
- Undertaking minor repairs to fixtures and fittings including desks, tables and chairs, and carrying out minor redecoration of any area as appropriate.
What we are looking for:
- Previous property maintenance experience or similar field is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organise and prioritise a demanding workload.
- Good IT skills for recording, training and communication purposes.
- Ability to work on own initiative and problem solve.
- Good level of DIY skills.
- Knowledge of COSHH Regulations.
