This challenging role is about maximising positive and appropriate media coverage of our work and views and the context in which we work. Responsible for all day-to-day contact with the media, there will be a particular emphasis on promoting the voices and views of refugees and asylum seekers.Refugee Action works with refugees to build new lives. We believe in sharing the freedoms of our country with those who have escaped terrible situations in theirs by making them feel welcome, letting them know we care and that they can feel at home here. Our Communications Team is responsible for shaping and directing all aspects of our communications, including our media relations activities. That\’s where you come in.As Press & PR Officer you will:Support our strategic objectives by delivering substantive and positive media coverage for our work via a professional and responsive service to journalistsResearch and write press releases, statements, articles, media briefings and letters to editorsDevelop and deliver media plans and build and maintain relationships with key journalistsPlay a proactive role in maintaining Refugee Action\’s reputationDeal with media enquiries, brief and support spokespeople and clients and act as spokesperson where necessaryAssist in the development of our websiteYou will need:Experience of working on media relations campaigns as a press officer or journalistAn insight into the needs, experiences and hopes of refugees and asylum seekersGood knowledge of the public policy issues involvedA flair for spotting and maximising opportunities to promote our workExcellent writing skills and a good understanding of a broad range of mediaThe ability to respond to a fast changing environment and work to deadlinesWillingness to travel in the UK and sometimes work out of hoursTo apply, please email completed applications to recruitment@refugee-action.org.uk or send postal applications to: HR, Refugee Action, Victoria Charity Centre, 11 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 1RB .
