Job Title: Customer Development Manager – Tesco
Location: Hemel Hempstead – Hybrid working
Job Length: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Working Hours: Monday – Friday (full time)

Carlsberg Britvic is the largest multi-beverage supplier in the UK and is home to some of the most iconic and popular beers & soft drinks, including Carlsberg Danish Pilsner, 1664, Poretti and Brooklyn to ale favourites such as Hobgoblin and Wainwright. For soft drinks, Carlsberg Britvic’s brands include J2O, Robinsons, Tango and London Essence along with the licence rights to the Pepsi portfolio in the UK including Pepsi MAX, 7UP, Lipton Iced Tea and Rockstar Energy.

About the role:
Reporting into the Business Development Manager, this role will partner with our Tesco account and will be a key point of contact for our customer – leading negotiations and crafting strategic and tactical account plans to drive volume, profit, and market share growth.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop a customer-specific strategic plan aligned with channel goals, in collaboration with Marketing and Planning & Execution, ahead of the financial year.
  • Create a tactical plan with Planning & Execution to deliver Carlsberg Britvic share, revenue, and trading contribution targets.
  • Lead price increase planning, including pre-conditioning, execution, and objection handling.
  • Collaborate with the Customer Logistics Manager to ensure accurate volume forecasting.
  • Establish and lead a robust customer contact strategy to unlock new opportunities.
  • Ensure well-prepared, structured customer meetings and coach the wider team to do the same.
  • Monitor account performance, adjust tactics as needed, and drive cross-functional collaboration.
  • Spend time in outlets to gain insight, assess execution, and support team development.
  • Fully accountable for the P&L of your category within Tesco, including building and agreeing investment plans to deliver AOP objectives.
  • Manage allocated budgets in line with channel and brand guidelines, ensuring maximum ROI.
  • Set up key rebates and settle claims where value, risk, or scale are significant.
  • Use CRM tools (e.g., Xtel, Anaplan) to manage responsibilities and related business processes.

Experience and Key Attributes:

  • Experience working in grocery and commercial
  • Experience of budgetary management – trade investment
  • Experience in category development, customer category development or buying (desirable)
  • Inspirational and persuasive communicator
  • Strong commercial acumen to shape effective propositions and account plans
  • Confident in P&L, volume, and profit forecasting
  • Skilled in selling and negotiation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building strong partnerships
  • Proficient in personal planning and time management
