Job Description
Responsible for the mechanical design integration of design changes to aerostructures and parts. All designs are to be in accordance with the technical requirements and ensure compliance with the airworthiness requirements. Checking of documentation and drawings related to mechanical design aspects and assisting the Head of Technical Projects to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical design schemes, including detailed and assembly drawings, for aircraft modifications.
- Design detailed parts and assemblies using 2D and 3D CAD tools.
- Create design documentation such as Modification Embodiment Instructions, instructions for continued airworthiness, and associated documents.
- Create design support verification documentation for a modification, e.g., Test Plans, Design Office Instructions (DOI), and Design Specifications.
- Ensure all mechanical design documentation is technically accurate, self-checked, and verified for completeness.
- Identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and non-conformities in design documentation.
- Ensure that design solutions meet required tolerancing, material selection, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and meet manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all mechanical design documentation complies with relevant airworthiness requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to mechanical design.
- Analyse and determine corrective actions for Design Query Forms (DQFs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Production Permits, and Concessions related to mechanical design.
- Collaborate with suppliers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure designs align with program objectives and manufacturing feasibility.
- Provide practical design solutions to technical problems with minimal supervision.
- Review and check mechanical documentation, including detailed drawings, assemblies, and CAD models, for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Review and check mechanical documentation, including embodiment instructions, instructions for continued airworthiness, and associated documentation.
- Review and check mechanical documentation used for compliance demonstration, e.g., Test Plans, Design Office Instructions (DOI), and Design Specifications.
- Validate tolerancing, material selection, and GD&T for correctness.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for design improvements and optimisation.
- Support design reviews and approval processes, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
- Lead technical projects, providing guidance and support to cross-functional teams.
- Provide guidance and support to Engineers, Associate Engineers and Graduate Engineers.
- Assist in training and mentoring new engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and professional growth.
- Liaise with all other technical disciplines within the Design Office to produce coherent and comprehensive design solutions and packages.
- Liaise with all other departments, e.g., production and installation engineers, in matters relating to projects to ensure smooth implementation of design requirements.
- Communicate effectively with all members of your team and the business, identify early potential risks, seek clarification when unsure, and provide feedback on all aspects of the business to your line manager.
- Assist the Head of Technical Project to deliver projects on time and within budget for all aspects of the project.
- Undertake and successfully pass appropriate training applicable to the role as communicated from time to time and proactively identify training opportunities for personal advancement and self-improvement.
- Proactively comply with and advocate company Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
