Location either: Lee-on-the-Solent or Southampton

To act as the UK CAA approved Nominated Person for Safety, serving as the single focal point for the Safety Management System (SMS) across Part 21J, 21G and Part 145 approvals, ensuring regulatory compliance and the effective development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety management processes across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the single focal point for safety management across Part 21J, 21G and 145 approvals.
  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective Safety Management System (SMS) across all sites and approvals.
  • Ensure that safety risks specific to design, production and maintenance activities are identified, assessed and appropriately mitigated within an integrated management system.
  • Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management across the organisation.
  • Maintain and manage risk registers and safety action plans.
  • Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of risk mitigation actions.
  • Establish and monitor safety performance indicators, analysing trends and identifying emerging risks.
  • Manage the organisation’s occurrence reporting system, ensuring effective reporting, investigation and follow-up.
  • Ensure appropriate investigation of safety occurrences, including identification of root causes and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Promote and maintain a just culture that encourages open and effective safety reporting.
  • Provide regular reports on safety performance to senior management and the Safety Review Board.
  • Support and participate in Safety Action Groups (SAGs) and other safety forums across all sites.
  • Ensure effective communication of safety information, risks and lessons learned throughout the organisation.
  • Advise the Accountable Manager and senior leadership on safety matters and risk exposure.
  • Maintain and continuously improve SMS documentation, procedures and associated records.
  • Ensure SMS processes are appropriately reflected within organisational expositions and manuals.
  • Ensure that initial and recurrent safety training is established, delivered and maintained, particularly in relation to: safety and occurrence reporting, hazard identification and risk management, safety responsibilities and culture.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across all locations and approvals.
  • Provide functional support and guidance to safety representatives, SAG members and deputies.
  • Support the respective compliance managers as a point of contact for safety management matters with the UK CAA.
  • Support regulatory oversight activities, audits and approvals relating to SMS.
  • Monitor developments in regulation and industry best practice, ensuring continuous improvement of the SMS.
  • Ensure effective coordination of safety across multiple sites and operational areas.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through training, industry engagement and continuous development.
  • Comply with all applicable legislation, regulations and company procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and act with integrity at all times.
  • Communicate effectively across the organisation, identifying and escalating risks where appropriate.
  • Support company Health and Safety policies and procedures where applicable (not as the primary function of the role).

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Aeronautical, engineering or safety-related qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Human Factors training (initial and continuation).
  • Formal training in Safety Management Systems.
  • Strong understanding of aviation safety management principles.
  • Ability to perform risk assessment and safety analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture across all levels.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Proficient IT skills, including safety management systems.
  • Significant experience within the aviation industry in a safety, airworthiness, design, production or maintenance environment.
  • Experience working within Part 21 and/or Part 145 organisations.
  • Experience in occurrence reporting and investigation.
  • Experience working with aviation regulators.
  • Ability to meet requirements for UK CAA approval as a Nominated Person.
  • Willingness to travel between sites (Lee-on-Solent, Bembridge, Southampton).
  • Flexibility to support operational and regulatory requirement.
