The success of Britten-Norman is reliant on the facilities and equipment being maintained to the highest standards. This will enable the MRO department to achieve targets with the least interruption possible and for the business to meet its regulatory compliance of Health and Safety.
The role of the General Hand is to complete facilities and general day-to-day tasks on the buildings and equipment within MRO. You will be responsible for ensuring the shop floor is kept clean and tidy, moving material and equipment around the hangar at the request of stores or engineering leads, carrying out machine checks (PPMs) and general facility tasks.
You will also be responsible for the upkeep of the buildings, which may include painting, moving or replacing walls, basic wiring, and other infrastructure repairs that are within your ability as delegated by management. There may be requirements to drive to other sites and the local area when the business requires. You will be responsible for the completion of projects and tasks given to you by the Infrastructure and Security Manager in a timely manner and report any issues found.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the MRO Team in keeping the shop floor clean, tidy, and efficient.
- Ensure that all HSE inspections and testing are carried out in a timely manner, and all defects or faults are reported back to the Line Manager.
- Assist in site security of the building.
- Replace light bulbs and lamp fittings as required.
- Complete ladder and trestle inspections.
- Inspect the condition of asbestos and report any visible damage.
- Conduct inspection and minor repairs to company vehicles.
- Use the online systems in place to report hazards, incidents, or defects to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
- Provide status reports on current jobs.
- Conduct risk assessments of a task prior to it being started; concerns are to be raised to the Line Manager.
- Use PPE in the manner instructed, and ensure it is looked after and stored correctly.
- Understand the life of the individual PPE and not exceed this.
- Complete any work in line with legislation and best practice as defined in guidance documents and working procedures.
- Assist the management team to ensure the site complies with HSE requirements.
- Assemble office furniture and assist in office moves.
- Assist with aircraft movements.
- Undertake repairs to the site security and door access system.
- Any other task that is requested within the scope of the job role.
- 2 years previous experience in a similar maintenance/facilities role.
- Strong knowledge of general repairs and maintenance across various trades.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of how to carry out general repairs related to plumbing, electrical, and decorating.
- Holds a full UK driving licence.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to find and resolve issues.
- Understanding of the limitations of their capabilities.
