An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our supportive and thriving team in Criminology and Policing at the University of Hull as we continue to deliver our successful undergraduate and postgraduate Criminology provision. There is a team of over 20 academic colleagues based in the Criminology and Policing, now part of a larger School of Criminology, Politics and Law in the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Education. We have expertise across the discipline in areas that include:

  • violence
  • victimisation
  • imprisonment and criminal justice
  • policing
  • organised crime
  • history of crime
  • the supervision of offenders
  • intelligence & surveillance

We are seeking to appoint a fixed term lecturer for ten months to contribute to our existing programmes, scholarship and knowledge exchange in Criminology. We work with knowledge exchange and research partners across the University and have excellent links with local, national and international criminal justice organisations and practitioners. These links present many exciting opportunities for applied knowledge exchange, research, and innovation. The successful candidate will be supported to produce high quality knowledge exchange, scholarship and engaging, innovative teaching.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

The successful candidate will be required to make a contribution to the teaching and delivery of our criminology and policing degree programmes, notably BA (Hons) Criminology and related major/minor programmes. They should be willing to undertake administrative roles and actively contribute to the administration of and student experience in the School. They may also undertake knowledge exchange activities and seek to develop new links with local and national criminal justice agencies.

We welcome applications from any area of criminology, and we are particularly keen to appoint a new colleague who is looking to develop in their experience as a lecturer, who can work collaboratively in a team and capitalise on our knowledge exchange and impact links in this area. You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience.

Applicants must have a postgraduate qualification in criminology or a relevant subject; a PhD submitted or completed is desirable.
