Role
The post involves:
- Active participation in curriculum development, establishment, and delivery of our new MSc course in Biotechnology.
- Delivery of lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops, and supervision of laboratory classes.
- Academic mentorship to advise, support and guide students through their academic journey towards the start of their future career.
- The successful candidate will be involved in the School’s research activities (publishing, securing funding, and building industry partnerships) and collaboration with leading national and international academics and researchers.
- The role also involves participation in the broader academic community through departmental and school-wide administration and strategic planning.
Please note that these roles will be offered at either Lecturer B or Senior Lecturer level depending on experience (see job profile below for further details). The salary range for a Lecturer B starts at £47,389 and Senior Lecturer starts at £58,225.
About you
This is a one-year fixed term post in the first instance and will focus on the set up and delivery of the MSc Biotechnology.
This position would be suitable for early to mid-career researchers with academic experience after completion of their PhD, and who could demonstrate:
- Significant research and teaching experience in biotechnology / biochemical engineering.
- Knowledge of the field of biotechnology to develop and deliver biotechnology related topics at the level of post-graduate teaching.
- Research background with high-quality publications in international journals, commensurate in quantity for the discipline and years of experience.
- Track record of high-quality teaching and positive student feedback.
- Enthusiasm for modern teaching methods including blended learning and teaching, face-to-face and on-line teaching, and use of case studies, simulations and/or problem-solving approaches.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience or potential to attract support from funding agencies and from industry.
Qualifications
- Doctoral qualification in Biotechnology / Biochemical Technology / Engineering Biology or closely related subjects.
- Teaching qualification and/or membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous.
- Experience within the broad landscape of biotechnology, including applied microbiology, bioprocess engineering, and biotechnology for bioactive compounds.
- Knowledge of topics such as downstream bioprocessing, environmental and industrial biotechnology, or biocatalysis is desirable.
