Based on the Durham Coastline, 6 miles south of Sunderland.

As Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse, you will work closely with the Head Veterinary Nurse and the wider clinical team to support the day-to-day operations of the nursing team.

This role is ideal for an ambitious RVN who is passionate about maintaining high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Support the Head Veterinary Nurse with the leadership and management of the nursing team.
  • Provide clinical guidance, support, and mentoring to RVNs, SVNs, and patient care assistants.
  • Promote excellent standards of nursing care, anaesthesia, inpatient care, and theatre practice.
  • Assist with staff development, training, and clinical coaching.
  • Ensure efficient clinical workflows and maintain high standards of hygiene and infection control.
  • Assist with stock management, equipment, and practice protocols.
  • Collaborate with vets, reception, and the wider practice team.
  • Deputise for the Head Veterinary Nurse when required.
  • Continue to provide outstanding, compassionate care to patients and their owners.

Skills and experience

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).
  • Experience in small-animal practice.
  • Confident, organised, and able to lead by example.
  • Passionate about high standards of patient care.
  • Supportive and approachable team player.
  • Keen to mentor and develop others.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues and clients.
  • Previous leadership or senior nursing experience is advantageous but not essential.
